385. That was my weight. I have struggled with that weight for most of my life, sitting by and watching my weight go up and down like a yo-yo. I was on high blood pressure medication and had to prick my fingers daily to check my blood sugar levels. I started going to the YMCA in March of 2011, and I saw results that first month.

woman hand weightIt was such an amazing feeling and I knew I wanted to keep that feeling going; in three months I lost 45 pounds! I ran a 5k in July of that same year and I was proud of myself and all that I had accomplished. I am still going, having lost over 145 pounds and off of all of my medications. I don't even have to test my blood sugar levels any more because my body has responded to my lifestyle change by becoming healthier. Watching what I eat has become a way of life for me, and one that I enjoy because of how it all makes me feel - AMAZING!! For years my excuse for not getting healthy was that I had a child, and I couldn't afford a babysitter while I worked out. But with Child Watch at the Y, my daughter looks forward to going to the Y as much as I do! She loves coloring, interacting with the other children, and playing with the Child Watch staff. We have both made some great friends at the Y! So whatever a person can do, just get started and give the Y a try! Your health will thank you!
