Get Involved with Our Cause
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Without volunteers we could not provide our community with the extensive services and programs we currently offer.
Volunteers provide essential assistance in the administration of each department division, serve on committees, work with staff to meet the needs of our members and participants, and provide many other valuable contributions to the organization.
Our YMCA offers year-round volunteer opportunities for members and non-members from the community and surrounding areas to give back and help build a better community within our Y. Opportunities range throughout the year and are based upon need within a program or department. Our manual is designed to guide and assist Volunteers and Volunteer Supervisors to effectively share the message of the Y.

Join Us in Giving Back
At the Y, we’re dedicated to strengthening community by giving back and supporting our neighbors. And we know that members like you have lots of ideas and the desire to reach out to make positive changes in our community.
Participating in the Togetherhood™ program gives you the chance to activate your social responsibility by helping our neighbors receive the support they need to feel healthy, connected and secure. Plus, contributing your time and talents for the good of others can enhance your own well-being!
There are two ways to participate:
1. JOIN THE TOGETHERHOOD™ SERVICE COMMITTEE
As a member of the Service Committee, you’ll serve for a term of one year to scope and run projects that help strengthen our community.
2. BECOME A SERVICE PROJECT VOLUNTEER
Service projects are designed to make a meaningful impact while being rewarding, convenient and fun!

Make an Impact
Last year the Y was able to give $425,000 in support for our families in need, scholarships for memberships, childcare and sports, recreation and swim lessons – helping more children, adults and families than ever to learn, grow and thrive.
We are proud of this success, but our community needs more. The demand for quality childcare is on the rise. Chronic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease continue to grow. The need to feel connected to your community is stronger than ever. There are so many more economically challenged individuals and families who need access to the amazing programs at the Y.
The number one reason individuals don’t make a gift to a cause is because they were never asked. That’s where we need your help! When you share your love of the Y, you open the door for new supporters to make this community stronger.
The campaign volunteer opportunity is a small time commitment, but it makes a big impact.

YOUTH SPORTS COACH
Together, We’re Making a Difference
Being a volunteer coach for the YMCA is not just an opportunity to put your athletic experience to work. Coaching at the Y allows you to make a difference in your community and in the lives of local children. Become a mentor by teaching kids the Y way to play!
The Y Way to Play is a commitment for all to learn, grow and have fun through sports. Our goal is to build a community through Y sports programs, in which everyone has the opportunity for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Sports are a vehicle to so many opportunities—whether it is sportsmanship and values, coaching and sharing, or socializing and learning teamwork.
Not sure what Wabash County YMCA’s focus or what the sports handbook references, but we can personalize it.
The Y Way to Play: Fun. Sportsmanship. Opportunity. Progressive Competition. Community.
Sports include: Basketball, flag football, soccer, gymnastics, golf, softball.
Need to verify with Bill on sports programs that would need coaches, referees, helpers….
